Who we are

Fiction with heat and heart.

Cindermere is a small, independent imprint for literary sapphic fiction — stories set at the crossroads of longing and belonging, in cities that hum with heat and contradiction, told by characters who carry the weight of who they're supposed to be and the hunger for who they actually are.

We publish books about South Asian women, about friendship that tips over into love, about the long and frightening walk toward being fully known. Slow burns. Closed doors. Open hearts.

Priya's Surrender

by Meera Kane

By day, Priya Sharma runs one of Mumbai's biggest ad floors like she was born to it: sharp, certain, the daughter her mother is finally proud of. By night, she is starving for something she can't name — the relief of setting the weight down, of being, for one stolen hour, completely undone.

The one steady thing in her life is Shanti: photographer, oldest friend, the person who brings two cups of coffee to the dawn sea wall and has been waiting, without a word, for ten years.

The Armor

by Meera Kane

Priya is twenty-five, good at her work, and learning that being good at it is somewhere to hide. In the years between leaving her first agency and earning the title she carries in Priya's Surrender, she builds the armor: indispensable to everyone, in need of no one.

The one gap in it is the dawn sea wall, and Shanti, and two cups of coffee — the single hour a day she doesn't have to prove anything to anybody.

The story does not end at three

The Whole Saga

Bound by Mumbai was never a trilogy. It is one long story about two women and the twenty-five years it takes them to say the true thing out loud — and six further books follow through 2027.

Part One

The Long Way Round

Priya from her twenties to thirty. How the armor gets built, and what it costs to wear it every day.

Part Two

Shanti

The same years, from the other side of the sea wall. The woman who brought two cups of coffee, and waited.

Part Three

Both of Her

After. Not the happy ending as a full stop, but the long, ordinary, hard-won work of a life lived in full daylight.

Titles, covers and dates for the remaining volumes are announced first to readers on the mailing list.

The writer behind Cindermere

Meera Kane

Meera Kane writes sapphic literary fiction set in South Asia — slow-burn stories about women who have spent their whole lives being careful, and the one person who finally makes that impossible.

Her debut novel, Priya's Surrender, is the first book in the Bound by Mumbai series. She writes from a deep love of Mumbai, of friendship as its own form of devotion, and of the long, frightening, necessary work of being fully known.
